Last September six students graduated from the Catholic University of Malawi with assistance from Mlambe Foundation. Davie Simengwa and Gervasio Ngumbira studied Archaeology. Christopher Mankhokwe, Frank Chifuno and John Mankhomwa graduated in Cultural Anthropology and Beni Kasiyamphanje in History.
Christopher, Frank and John were among the first Cultural Anthropology majors to graduate in Malawi. They are all very ambitious, aiming for academic careers. They have started well so far. John was immediately appointed staff associate at the Catholic University where he has been given some teaching responsibilities. Christopher was employed by African Heritage –Research & Consultancy and in that capacity he will occasionally assist Mlambe Foundation in Malawi. Frank is still looking for a permanent job but has conducted some questionnaires on behalf of a Lilongwe based NGO.
Davie and Beni have taken up teaching at secondary schools. This will be valuable experience in their pursuit of academic careers. Davie wrote in his thesis: “I was about to give up studying Archaeology and Anthropology for I thought all doors are closed on me.”
With Mlambe Foundation support he was able to finish his studies, for which he is eternally grateful. Mlambe Foundation has been able to give this and other support through the contributions of many individuals. With your assistance we could expand this programme.
